-**Purpose:​** The purpose of the External IT Advisory Board is to provide advice and counsel to the CIO on technological issues of importance to the College. These include emerging technologies,​ regulatory and legislative considerations,​ and potential and existing partnerships. The External IT Advisory Board serves at the pleasure of the CIO and is advisory in nature.

-**Membership:​** The External IT Advisory Board consists of not more than 20 members who serve 3-year renewable terms. After the inaugural year, terms will be staggered to ensure continuity. At the conclusion of their initial appointment,​ members may be invited to serve one additional 3-year term. Thereafter, members may be eligible for further reappointment only after leaving the External IT Advisory Board for at least one year. The President and the CIO shall serve as ex-officio members of the External IT Advisory Board. Members are selected based on their professional knowledge and experience as well as their commitment to and partnership with the College. The CIO will make selection or reappointment decisions with appropriate input from the College’s leadership.

-**Meetings:​** The External IT Advisory Board will meet not more than twice each year. Meetings will be held on the college campus in Needham, MA. Infrequently,​ other locations may be utilized. Travel expenses will be the responsibility of the members.

-**Leadership:​** A Chairman will provide leadership for the External IT Advisory Board. The Chairman will be selected by the CIO after appropriate consultation with others and shall serve for a term of two years. The Chairman will serve an additional year as Past Chairman to provide continuity as the new Chairman is appointed.

-**Responsibilities of Members:** Members of the External IT Advisory Board will be expected to provide advice and counsel to advance the College in terms of Information Technology in partnership with the mission of the College. Members will also be expected to advocate for the College with all appropriate constituencies. Probable topics include: fully integrating technology into the curriculum and the learning process; implications of technology on student life experience; supporting research and innovation in a secure environment;​ technologies to watch; partnership and corporate relations opportunities;​ information technology governance; managing customer support expectations;​ and funding strategies.

-**Reporting:​** At least once each year, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the External IT Advisory Board shall meet with the College President and appropriate Senior Leadership to provide a report on the technological opportunities and challenges facing the College. The purpose of this report is to foster communication and to provide additional channels for innovation and continuous improvement in the areas of technology and the intersection of technology and the College mission and operations.
