Changing Your Olin Network Password

What to know prior to changing your password

We strongly recommend you read; Your Olin Password, What You Should Know to review Olin College’s password requirements and some other common password related questions prior to changing your network account password.

It is important to note that changing your password affects more than your laptop; it also affects other devices that connect to Olin services and your access to those services. Many devices (Apple, Linux or Windows based computers, and mobile devices such as iPads, iPhones, Android and other smart phones) and various applications, allow you to store accounts and passwords. These devices and/or applications automatically retry accessing services such as email or connecting to wireless networks with these stored accounts and passwords. This may result in account lockouts due to failed login attempts following a password change if certain steps aren’t taken when changing your password.

If you use any of these devices to access Olin services, please be sure to review and follow the steps below for each of these devices prior to a password change.

On Olin issued Dell Laptops

Prior to proceeding with a password change we strongly encourage users to close out of any applications that use stored or cached credentials and clear the Windows Credential Manager of any Outlook/Webmail/Exchange stored credentials:

  1. Open the Start Menu and in the search field type in Credential Manager
  2. Open up the Credential Manager program once the search is completed.
  3. Locate any set(s) of credentials that have Outlook or “olin.edu” in the name under any of the fields (Windows Credentials or Generic Credentials)
  4. Click the name to expand the set of credentials and then choose Remove from Vault

If you use any mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.) to access your Olin email account, please set the device(s) to airplane mode prior to proceeding with the next steps in order to prevent any account lockouts.
