Contacting Information Technology

Information Technology can be contacted for questions and support by sending an email to helpdesk@olin.edu or by telephone between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM at ext 2430 or 781-292-2430 from off campus. Our helpdesk walk up window is also open during these hours. Please feel free to stop in with questions or suggestions in Milas Hall Ste LL10

IT Services

All faculty members will be issued a network account and an Olin email account. Your network account will give you the ability to print and access network shares on campus. Please stop by the helpdesk in the lower level of Milas Hall, MHLL10 to get your account activated and receive your username. Each faculty member is allotted private storage space on on network file server (fsvs01). This storage is provided as an academic resource and should be used for this purpose only. This server also holds a public folder which is shared by the entire Olin community and a folder named stufac which is accessible to students and faculty.

  • Network shares can be accessed at server \\fsvs01.
  • Printers can be accessed at server \\printvs01.
  • Engineering applications can be accessed at server \\stuapp.
  • You will be prompted for your network credentials for all servers which should be entered as olin.edu\firstinitiallastname and password

If you require access to networked engineering applications or network shares while off campus, you can use our Virtual Private Network to connect to the Olin network once you have established internet access. VPN client software for windows is available for download to your personal computer on our portal: see details below for portal access. You can email helpdesk@olin.edu to request a username and password for the VPN software.

There is a computer lab located on the lower level Milas Hall MHLL22. The lab is locked 24/7, but you can access this area anytime with your Olin ID card. Your network credentials will give you full access to all engineering applications as well as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro and Dreamweaver which are installed on these computers. There are a 42 and 24 in wide carriage poster printers in the lab for curriculum use and a full color Xerox printer copier.

Electronic Mail

Olin provides a web based email client that can be accessed at:

  • Click the appropriate logon option, and sign in with our domain name and your network credentials→olin.edu\first initial

last name and network password

  • Olin email can be forwarded to your personal account by emailing helpdesk@olin.edu with your forwarding information.

You can find a complete list of these email groups in the Global Address book which can be accessed from your address book in webmail.

  • List@olin.edu will reach all faculty and staff
  • Staff@olin.edu will reach all staff members
  • Faculty@olin.edu will reach all faculty members
  • students@olin.edu will reach all students
  • classof2011@olin.edu will reach all students in class of 2011

Web Space

If you are interested in creating a web site, you will find a web folder identified with your network username, located at server \\facweb\faculty. Once you create your web site, please contact alyson.goodrow@olin.edu in our Communication office as she can update your faculty profile, located on our main web site, to include a link to your web site.

Internet Access

You can plug your laptop into any active jack on campus to get internet connectivity. Your network credentials will allow you access to our wireless network. Further information on connecting to our wireless network can be found on the IT web site located at http://it.olin.edu. Choose the documentation tab and then network link. Network Printers For a complete list of available printers/scanners, as well as directions on adding a network printer and printing to network printers from your personal laptop, go to http://it.olin.edu Choose Documents→printing. Olin Portal Please visit our portal at: https://my.olin.edu. Log in using your network username and password. You can also find calendar information and links to important urls on campus. You can download VPN software directly from the portal by going to the Campus Life Tab and choosing Information Technology page from the left column. Student Information System Our student information system can be accessed at https://sis.olin.edu. Please contact the helpdesk for credentials to access this system

Accessing the Course Management System

Olin College uses Blackboard as its course management system. If you would like to use Blackboard for your class or need further information, please email helpdesk@olin.edu with course ID and we will create accounts, course and upload all enrolled students.
