Outlook 2007 configuration for Exchange
Configuring an Exchange connection for the first time:
- From the XP Start menu;
- Click Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007
- In the Outlook 2007 Startup window, Click Next
- In the Account Configuration window
- Select YES
- Click Next
- In the Auto Account Setup window:
- Your account information should automatically appear after a couple of seconds.
- After it autofills the fields, click Next
- In the Configuring window:
- Let it auto-configure.
- When you see the notice, Your email account is successful configured to use Microsoft Exchange, click Finish.
- At this point, Outlook should complete the profile configuration and startup.
Configuring an Exchange connection manually:
- Same steps 1-3 as above.
- In the Auto Account Setup window:
- Check Manually configure server settings or additional server types.
- Click Next.
- In the Choose Email Service window:
- Select Microsoft Exchange Server
- Click Next
- In the Exchange Server Settings window;
- Enter the name of Olin’s Microsoft Exchange Server: webmail.olin.edu
- Ensure that Use Cached Exchange Mode is checked.
- This will keep a locally cached copy of your Exchange folders in case you can’t connect to the server
- It is also necessary for the Junk Email filters to work.
- Enter your network username (first initial last name) in the User Name field.
- Click Check Name button to verify that you can successfully communicate with the server
- If successful, the User Name box should now display your full name.
- If you encounter trouble, report any errors to the IT Help Desk for assistance.
- Click More Settings to launch the Microsoft Exchange Server properties window.
- Select the Security tab
- In the Encryption section, select the option to Encrypt data between Outlook and Exchange. (It should be checked)
- Click Apply
- Click OK to return to the Exchange Server Settings window
- Click Next
- Click Finish
- At this point, Outlook should complete the profile configuration and startup.
